Application of Brdu in Studying Postnatal Neurogenesis

چکیده
INTRODUCTION In the mammalian central nervous system (CNS), neurogenesis occurs mainly prenatally but continues in restricted regions during the postnatal life. It is intensive during the first two weeks after birth picking at P7-P9. Thereafter, neurogenesis is significantly diminished and remains longlife in the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricle and the subgranular zone (SGZ) of the dentate gyrus (DG) (3,13). Actually, adult neurogenesis repeats in a similar way the stages of generation and functional integration of new neurons like the developing brain. Therefore, data on early postnatal neurogenensis may be helpful to elucidate basic neurogenic mechanisms in the adult brain. The use of the thymidine analog BrdU has become a valuable tool for studying neurogenesis in the adult mammalian brain, including in human (6,8,11). BrdU immunohistochemistry is currently the most used technique for birth dating and cell proliferation monitoring that is one of the most ABSTRACT

Postnatal neurogenesis in the hippocampal dentate gyrus and subventricular zone of the Göttingen minipig.
Postnatal neurogenesis is currently viewed as important for neuroplasticity and brain repair. We are, therefore, interested in animal models for neuroimaging of postnatal neurogenesis. A recent stereological study found an age-dependent increase in the number of neurons and glial cells in the neocortex of Göttingen minipigs, suggesting that this species may be characterized by a prolonged postn...
متن کاملThe effects of exercise on adolescent hippocampal neurogenesis in a rat model of binge alcohol exposure during the brain growth spurt.
Exposure to alcohol during the brain growth spurt results in impaired cognition and learning in adulthood. This impairment is accompanied by permanent structural changes in the hippocampal formation. Exercise improves performance on hippocampal-dependent learning and memory tasks and increases adult neurogenesis in the rat hippocampal dentate gyrus. The present study examined the effects of whe...
متن کاملEndogenous neurogenesis in the hippocampus of developing rat after intrauterine infection.
Perinatal infection is a major cause of neonatal neurologic morbidity. The goal of this study is to examine the effects of intrauterine infection on hippocampal neurogenesis and self-repair during early developmental stages. The animals were randomly divided into two groups: E. coli infected group and control group. Neurogenesis was examined by incorporation of BrdU, a marker of proliferating c...
متن کاملProlactin administration during early postnatal life decreases hippocampal and olfactory bulb neurogenesis and results in depressive-like behavior in adulthood.
Tight regulation of hormone and neurochemical milieu during developmental periods is critical for adequate physiological functions. For instance, activation of peptide systems during early life stress induces morphological changes in the brain resulting in depression and anxiety disorders. Prolactin (PRL) exerts different actions within the brain; it regulates neurogenesis and modulates neuroen...

Introdution: Stroke is one of the most common diseases caused by occlusion or rupture of blood vessels in brain. It brings heavily loads for families and societies. Although some new strategies including treatment of tissue plasminogen activator have been applied in the clinic, these methods do not have perfect effect. Accordingly, more effective therapeutic strategies need to be developed...
